Pantoum: Sight Lost, Depth Regained

From very slightly different points of view
To lose an eye has given me perspective
It isn’t quite as good as having two
But one eye is surprisingly effective

To lose an eye has given me perspective
At first it made my vision go quite flat
But one eye is surprisingly effective
Once the brain’s acclimatised to that

At first it made my vision go quite flat
My fingers had to walk to reach a drink
But once the brain acclimatised to that
It underwent a cognitive rethink

My fingers had to walk to reach a drink
My mind had missed its second sight, but then
It underwent a cognitive rethink
And opened my dimensions up again

My mind had missed its second sight, but then
It learned more angles it could use to look
And opened my dimensions up again
Like turning pages of a pop-up book

It learned more angles it could use to look
From shadows, movements, size, converging lines
Like turning pages of a pop-up book
Discerning depth through cerebral designs

Shadows, movements, size, converging lines
Took up the role of figuring the distance
Discerning depth through cerebral designs
Breaking down demoralised resistance

They took the role of figuring the distance
And when the month’s adjusting had been done
Breaking down demoralised resistance
I saw 3D though having only one

When the month’s adjusting had been done
Whatever deep resource my brain had found
I saw 3D though having only one
Good eye that looks and sees the world around

Whatever deep resource my brain had found
It isn’t quite as good as having two
Good eyes that look and see the world around
From very slightly different points of view
