Echoes from the Eighties

I heard it back then
about lesbians and gay men
Now I hear it again
The deniers of rights
now have trans in their sights

It’s not natural, it’s counterfactual
It’s abnormal and scornful
It’s disordered, perverse
and worse, it’s a curse

They’re sick, they’re diseased
We’re very displeased
We’re sure there are cures
and treatments
Or we could beat it out of them
We’ve therapies for conversion
to defeat their perversion

I heard it back then
about lesbians and gay men
Now I hear it again
The deniers of rights
now have trans in their sights

Stay in your place
Embrace the sinner, hate the sin
Don’t seek comfort in your skin
Choose not to act on your desires
God is testing you –
We know what’s best for you

Don’t interfere in the Almighty’s plan
God made woman and God made man
And he made them to go together
However, we know
They’re not real women or real men

I heard it back then
about lesbians and gay men
Now I hear it again
The deniers of rights
now have trans in their sights

They’re only doing it
Because it’s trendy and cool
Bending the rules
They’re seeking attention
By breaking convention
It’s only a phase
They’ll all grow out of it one of these days
I mean – how can you possibly know at that age?

They can do what they like
in private, alright?
But why must they flaunt it
and force it down everyone’s throats?
– pass me my notes –
You don’t see straights doing that, do you?

I heard it back then
about lesbians and gay men
Now I hear it again
The deniers of rights
now have trans in their sights

They’re paedos and groomers
And I’ve heard the rumours
They recruit! They seduce!
They can’t reproduce!
Their families are pretended
They need to be mended
She’s a fake, he’s a bender
They have an agenda

They’re a risk to society
and our moral fabric
Their existence is tragic
They’re obsessed with sex
And the rights they expect
Come at others’ expense
They’re causing offence

I heard it back then
about lesbians and gay men
Now I hear it again
The deniers of rights
now have trans in their sights

Hate from the Eighties
Declined in the Nineties
Restored in the Noughties
and then in the Tens
and now in the Twenties
It’s back with a vengeance

I heard it back then
about lesbians and gay men
Now I hear it again
The deniers of rights
now have trans in their sights
