Soteria in the Pub

Join us another Soteria in the Pub open mic event to raise awareness for compassionate alternatives for people in distress on Sun 23rd March 2-6pm at The Betsey Trotwood (EC1R 3BL). This a private event please book a ticket online – free/donations welcome.

Soteria London is a CIC part of the Soteria UK Network and international movement of service users, survivors, activists, carers and professionals fighting for more humane, non-coercive mental health services. We aim to build networks of support, creativity, and connection including houses for people in extreme distress.

Our live open mic events at the Betsey Trotwood are safe places for people to stand up and tell their stories, read poems and sing songs to share their hopes, dreams and survival stories with an appreciative audience to witness. Come and join us! Whatever the mood of your music, poems, stories, we want to hear you!

We will also be promoting Mad Kin zine , a new zine is about the alternative kin we craft outside of psych and policing spaces to keep our communities safe. It houses calls to action from abolitionist and safe housing networks, disabled and queer artists, and groups resisting immigration raids. Readers tbc

Our main guest again is Janine Booth, author, poet, one woman riot, activist and poetry editor at Asylum Magazine. Janine welcomes any poems for submission to the magazine. The house band Dadford & Son: Frank Burgess, Will Lovering, Eamonn Flynn will also be back to bang out some tunes. Then you !! The open mic …..

This is a ticket only event, please book in advance via Eventbrite. Tickets are free but we welcome donations of £5 – £10. All funds will be used to help fund future events, plans and to pay performers.

Soteria in the Pub: Feeling safe at our gig

Our space is safe. It can be intimidating to perform songs, poems and stories in a new space and we want everyone to feel safe. To help with any nerves or stage fright, we have set a rehearsal date, should you like to meet and familiarise yourself with the space. This will take place usually a week before on the evening of Tuesday 11 th March . Please email us at [email protected] to confirm your attendance for a rehearsal.

During the event, we will also have a quiet room upstairs and staff will be available to be with you if you are feeling overwhelmed in any way.
