WEA Sydney – Minds of all Kinds: Understanding Autism and Neurodiversity

August 28, 2019 @ 11:15 - 12:15

neurodiverse 5b5 M2ta6M.tmp

Venue: WEA Sydney

Guest Speakers:

  • Judy Singer – Originator of the word ‘Neurodiversity’, UTS
  • Janine Booth – Convenor of the UK Labour Party Autism and Neurodiversity Manifesto and author of Autism Equality in the Workplace

Judy and Janine will talk about how the idea of ‘neurodiversity’ can help us accept that different people have different brains, and that rather than fixing individuals, we need to prioritise fixing discrimination and intolerance in society. Autistic, dyspraxic, dyslexic and other neurologically atypical people have valuable insights and talents, but too often their experiences are of a disabling society. There will be time for questions and discussion.
