DESCRIPTION:Cheltenham Poetry Festival presents readings from the anthology\, Poetry and Settled Status for All (CivicLeicester\, 2022). \nPublished in January this year\, the anthology is inspired by and builds on how\, around the world\, campaigners are asking governments to give Settled Status\, Indefinite Leave to Remain and humane pathways to citizenship to all in their jurisdictions who need such status. \nPoetry and Settled Status for All presents 114 poems and short prose pieces from 97 writers from around the world exploring themes that include lived experience of migration\, refugee and undocumented migrant experiences\, and the hostile environment. \nThe anthology is dedicated to “all who have left the place they were born to find home elsewhere\, to those who support them\, and to peace and community activist extraordinaire Penny Walker (1950-2021)” and features contributions from seasoned writers with many publications to their names alongside emerging voices. \nPoets reading at the event include: Sandra Agard\, Jim Aitken\, Janine Booth\, A.C Clarke\, Mark Connors\, Alice Herve\, Kevin Jackson\, Margaret Kiernan\, Ambrose Musiyiwa\, Lytisha Tunbridge\, Gail Webb\, and Kimmika L. H. Williams-Witherspoon. DESCRIPTION:Venue: The Royal Oak\, 3 Station Street\, Lewes\, East Sussex \nBook a ticket for a donation of your choosing here. \n\n  \nHenry Normal was born in Nottingham in 1956\, and lives in East Sussex with his wife\, the screenwriter Angela Pell\, and their son\, Johnny. He is a writer\, poet\, TV and film producer\, and four of the Manchester Poetry Festival (now the Literature Festival) and co-founder of the Nottingham Poetry Festival. \nIn June 2017\, he was honoured with a special BAFTA for service to television. He co-wrote numerous hit shows\, including Mrs Merton\, Paul and Pauline Calf Video Diaries\, and Coogan’s Run. Henry set up Baby Cow Productions in 1999\, and produced all its shows until 2016\, including Gavin and Stacey\, The Mighty Boosh and Alan Partridge. \nSince retiring in 2016\, Henry has written and perfomred seven BBC Radio 4 shows – A Normal Family\, A Normal Love\, A Normal Creativity\, A Normal Nature\, A Normal Universe ad A Normal Communications – combining comedy\, poetry and stories abiout bringing up his autistic son. \nHenry has returned to his first love – poetry – and performs at literature festival around the UK. He has ten poetry collections published by Flapjack Press. \n  \nTo book an open mic slot\, please message the organiser in advance or take your chances on the door! Bands announced so far … \nBugeye Charley Stone Chroma Currls \ndeux furieuses Deuxes Fräulein Gilan \nGirlcrush (DNK) Hotwax I\, Doris Killdren \nLambrini Girls Lilith Ai Muff Pink Suits \nQueen Cult Rabies Babies Snoozers & more TBA \nWe are also partnering up with some key feminist organisers and activists\, including: \n\nLevel Up – led by Janey Starling (who just scooped a Kerrang! Grassroots award)\, running bystander intervention training and campaigning on behalf of pregnant women in prisons\nSafe Gigs for Women – a team of volunteers creating a safer environment for women at gigs and festivals\nGirls Against – a nonprofit organisation standing up against sexual assault and misogyny in the live music scene\nAlliance 4 Choice – a Northern Ireland abortion support campaign group \n\n\n“LOUD WOMEN has always campaigned for better representation of women in the music industry – it’s all about building a strong platform and passing the mic to those who most need their voices amplified. There’s strength in numbers\, so this year we’re using that platform also to amplify the voices of our sisters campaigning on important topics which are relevant to our audiences – e.g. access to abortion healthcare\, keeping gigs safe from sexual assault\, and protecting ourselves\, our sisters (and not just our cisters) from state violence.” \nLW’S FOUNDER CASSIE FOX \nThe festival has grown year on year\, to become the largest female-led festival in the UK\, attracting performers and attendees from around the world\, and securing LOUD WOMEN’s position as the leading international showcase for female and non-binary alternative bands and artists in the grassroots/DIY music scene.
