Not Going Out

I’d love to get out but the lift doesn’t work
and my knees are too stiff for the stairs

I’d love to get out but the telly keeps telling me
people like me should be scared

I’d love to get out but the centre I went to
is closed behind chained and locked doors

I’d love to get out but the lady who’d take me –
she doesn’t come round any more

I’d love to get out but my friend had a fall
and now he’s all plastered and wired

I’d love to get out but there aren’t any benches
to sit on if I’m feeling tired

I’d love for my life to be open not shut
and I’d love to get out of this rut
